Police Officer

Earn up to $115,620.57 / Year base

Qualified candidates, participate, and successfully complete the POST-certified Police Recruit Training Academy prior to being commissioned as a Police Officer for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: No experience is required.

  • Training/Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • License or Certificate: Possession of an appropriate, valid Nevada driver license at the time of hire.

  • Must be at least 20.5 years of age by the date of the first exam for the position.

  • Must be a Citizen of the United States by the date of the first exam for the position.

  • Must not be prohibited from possessing a firearm pursuant to any law, including NRS 202.360 or 18 U.S. Code § 921-922.

  • Must meet all minimum standards for appointment to perform duties of a peace officer under NAC 289.110.

Pay and Incentives

  • Employee Pay: Employees do not pay any state or city income tax.

  • Assignment Differential: Eligible for additional pay for specific assignments after academy completion.

  • Clothing Allowance: Eligible police and corrections officers receive a clothing allowance based on agreements in effect.

  • Education Incentive: Officers with an Associate, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree may qualify for additional pay.

  • Overtime Pay/Compensatory Time: Overtime is compensated at 1.5x hourly rate or as compensatory time.

  • Shift Differential: Additional pay for shifts outside standard hours or graveyard shifts.

  • Bilingual Pay: Qualified employees receive additional pay each pay period.

Leave and Holidays

  • Vacation leave: 3-5 weeks/year based on service years.

  • 13 paid holidays/year.

  • Sick leave: 104 hours/year, unlimited accrual.

  • Bereavement, bonus, and professional leave options.

  • Employer-paid health, vision, and dental coverage; small paycheck deduction for dependent coverage.

  • Employer-paid retirement via Nevada PERS (vested after 5 years).
